Most of the first users of HTC Vive should also be gamers.

But HTC’s ambitions are more than that, and the game may be just a stepping stone. In April of this year, HTC Chairman Wang Xuehong announced that it will implement the Vive X accelerator program and will invest more than US$100 million in funds to support VR content and technology teams and create VR ecosystems. At the MWC Shanghai at the end of June, HTC announced that it has established virtual reality venture alliances with 28 venture capital companies including Sequoia Capital and Jingwei Venture Capital. Like PS VR, HTC Vive also wants to bring the VR experience to more and more people. According to Wang Congqing, there are more than 100 offline experience shops currently collaborating with HTC. By the end of the year, this number may exceed 10,000.

In fact, in addition to letting more people come into contact with VR games, the bigger obstacle lies in the price. At present, the cost of tens of thousands of people still makes most people frustrated with VR. PS VR is priced from 2999 yuan, with the PS 4 host can play. The HTC Vive BNM is priced at 6,888 yuan, and it needs to be matched with a high-end computer. The cost has exceeded 10,000 yuan at least. The closer the price is to the people, the more likely it is to approach more users. Of course, the value of VR goes far beyond the game. According to a VR research report released by German Bank in March this year, in addition to games, live events, video entertainment, healthcare, real estate, education, etc. are also the areas where VR applications are most promising.

Wang Congqing also understands the difficulty of going. "The biggest problem we have now is education market, because many people don't understand what VR is. Many users only use some mobile phone boxes. Because they have very few applications or they have poor interaction, they will feel that VR is not mature, this is not the true state of VR."

For the entire VR industry, the game may just be the beginning, and it takes time to cultivate users. From this perspective, "We and Sony are not opponents," said Wang Congqing.
