Research on DSP Remote Loading Technology Based on Ethernet

DSP has high-speed computing power and rich peripheral interfaces, and is widely used in embedded systems. Many DSP-based embedded systems are deployed in demanding environments or remote locations. When software upgrades or program updates are required, personnel cannot enter or reach the environment. Remote loading techniques must be used to complete upgrades and updates. Ethernet has the advantages of long transmission distance and high transmission rate, and is a good carrier for remote data transmission. Currently, mainstream DSP chips can extend the Ethernet interface. This paper combines Ethernet technology and TI DSP chip as an example to study DSP remote loading technology.

The core idea of DSP remote loading includes three aspects:

1 DSP can send and receive remote control terminal data;

2 DSP can update the Flash area where the user program is stored;

3 DSP can get user configuration choices whether remote loading is required.

Based on the above three points, this paper studies the DSP network interface technology, DSP and Flash interface and drive technology, and remote loading configuration technology.

1.1 DSP Ethernet Interface Technology

(1) Extend the Ethernet interface through a dedicated interface chip

In TI's early DSPs, such as C5000, C6201, C6701 and other series, there is no integrated dedicated Ethernet controller inside the chip, and it is not possible to communicate directly with Ethernet. It must pass the DSP's EMIF (external storage interface) and dedicated interface chip. Connect to extend the Ethernet. These dedicated chips are CP2200, MC9S12NE6 and so on. Figure 1 shows the interface diagram of TMS320C5410 and CP2200 [1].

(2) Extend the Ethernet interface through an on-chip dedicated interface

With the improvement of DSP manufacturing process, many DSP chips have integrated Ethernet controllers, such as DM642, C6455, C6416, etc., and only need external physical layer chips (such as RTL8019AS, 82540EM, etc.) to expand the Ethernet interface. Figure 2 shows a schematic diagram of the DSP directly extending the Ethernet through an on-chip dedicated interface.

1.2 programmable Flash chip

TI's high-speed DSPs (C5000, C6000 series) do not have on-chip non-volatile memory, and programs must be stored in external non-volatile memory. The DSP program is usually stored and loaded by a programmable flash memory. The commonly used Flash chips are Intel's E28Fxx series and AMD's AM29xx series. Figure 3 shows a typical interface circuit for DSP and Flash [2].

RS232/485/422 serial to Ethernet server is an Ethernet TCP /IP protocol compliant bidirectional conversion transmission equipment, changing traditional serial to network communication, can directly access to the network serial devices through software. Compact designed, durable, user-friendly interface allows you to stable and reliable serial networking solutions.
Serial port, Ethernet port and power port with surge protection
Surges, often aroused by transient high voltage generated by lightning etc., can cause damage to the electrical equipment. Surge protection takes leading technology to protect serial port, Ethernet port and power port. Equipped with serial networking solution, it stops electrical equipment away from the interference of voltage variations and electrical noise.
