With technological advancement, smart substations will not have the distinction between primary equipment and secondary equipment in the future, and secondary equipments with functions of measurement, control, detection, metering, and protection will all be integrated into the primary equipment to form intelligent equipment to meet Smart substation requirements for automation and intelligence.

Yang Jingmei believes that intelligent secondary equipment not only raises its own technical barriers, but also has a higher integration requirement for manufacturers' integration capabilities. Secondary equipment manufacturers with high technology and complete product lines will be the ultimate winners. Therefore, with the in-depth development of smart substations, leading enterprises in secondary equipment manufacturing will fully benefit.

In addition, Yang Jingmei stated that with the bidding of secondary equipment for substations being centralized by the provincial companies to the State Grid Corporation of China, the trend of further increase in market concentration has begun to show. The leading enterprises of secondary equipment will obtain an average growth rate higher than the growth of the industry.

The potential for transformation of distribution automation is huge. The capacity will reach 57.6 billion yuan and 9.1 billion yuan respectively, and the total market capacity will be close to 70 billion yuan. If the investment in the communications network is taken into consideration, the total market capacity will not be less than 100 billion yuan.

Assuming that the transformation of distribution automation is completed within 10 years and the automation requirements for new distribution equipment are taken into account, the average annual market capacity may reach 12 billion yuan. In 2010, China's distribution automation market demand is less than 1 billion yuan. Therefore, the potential for distribution automation growth is huge in the coming years.

Huang Shonghong, chief analyst of Essence Securities, believes that smart grid construction will be long-term and will continue to be hot. Given the macroeconomic downturn and the uncertainties in the future, the certainty of the structural growth of the grid equipment sector must be taken seriously by the market.
