Leadtek Introduces New VDSL Chipset

Recently, Leadtek announced that it will introduce the industry's most integrated and highest performance VDSL chipset series XWAYTMVRX300. Gateways based on the new chipset design can achieve data transfer rates of up to 200 Mbits (using two pairs of twisted-pair bonding technology) and up to 150 Mbits (using vectoring technology for system-level crosstalk cancellation) while supporting a range of home networking functions , including built-in WLAN (Wi-Fi), Gigabit Ethernet and VoIP.

The new VDSL chipset provides broadband equipment vendors with the flexibility to produce routers and gateways. They support advanced carrier services with fewer components than any other available chipset. The same client-side equipment (CPE) hardware design supports all ITU-T standard band plans (including 8, 12, 17 and 30 MHz profiles), and the system can also be designed for the widest possible range of client-side network functions.

Highlights and Advantages of XWAYTMVRX300

The chipset uses Lantiq's AnyWANTM system architecture, which includes the company's advanced GRX388/387 communications processor and VRX318 VDSL transceiver chip.

This ITU-T compatible VDSL system VDSL Vectoring and Pair Bonding enable operators to provide up to 150 Mbits and 200 Mbits respectively, while physical layer retransmission technology (PHY) Layer Retransmission achieves the highest possible media content quality of service (QoS).

High-performance dual-core CPU and packet hardware acceleration (Packet Hardware Acceleration) architecture to achieve the industry-leading CoreMark TM level, while also integrating VoIP engine, Gigabit Ethernet switching and energy-efficient Gigabit Ethernet Phy.

• The embedded carrier-class 802.11 n Wi-Fi subsystem with off-load capability in the chip brings the smallest load to the main CPU while delivering up to 300 Mbits. Lantiq's powerful and unique beamforming technology provides the longest Wi-Fi coverage for the entire home and is not limited by the Wi-Fi client used.

Market Information (IHS iSuppli)

IHSiSuppli predicts that shipments of VPE-capable CPE systems will grow from about 22 million units in 2012 to more than 57 million units in 2016. Based on the VRX200 series it is currently shipping, Lantiq’s market share has grown by a double-digit percentage each year for the past two years. With the introduction of the VRX300, the company now offers two different chipset solutions to meet the cost and functional requirements of equipment vendors.

Samples of the XWAYTM VRX300 chipset are available now, and volume production is planned for July 2013.
