Sumitomo Electric released high heat-resistant flexible circuit board for LED lighting

On October 7, 2013, Sumitomo Electric Industries Co., Ltd. released a flexible printed circuit board that ensures long-term reliability (insulating film adhesion and inter-circuit insulation) in a high temperature environment of 150 ° C or higher (upper limit: 175 ° C). FPC). The purpose of this product is to use fields that require high heat resistance, such as automotive power transmission circuits and LED lighting, which are difficult to achieve with conventional FPC boards.

The FPC was developed and manufactured by Sumitomo Electric Printing Circuit Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric, and sold by Sumitomo Electric. Samples have been provided to customers.

According to Sumitomo Electric, the previous FPC is generally based on the use of the environment below 100 °C. When these FPC boards are used in a high-temperature environment of 150 ° C or higher, the deterioration process of the constituent materials is accelerated, and the adhesion of the insulating film is severely damaged in a short period of time.

The newly developed FPC improves the heat resistance of the cover layer adhesive as a constituent material, and greatly improves the basic performance at high temperatures (heat resistance and durability in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment). When a newly developed adhesive material is used in combination with a heat-resistant polyimide-based resin, deterioration in a high-temperature environment can be suppressed, and deterioration in performance of the insulating film can be prevented.

Sumitomo Electric conducted three endurance tests on new products under high temperature conditions: (1) placed in air at 150 ° C; (2) placed in high temperature and high humidity (placed at 85 ° C · 85% RH) (3) immersed in oil at a high temperature of 150 °C. All three tests confirmed that the new product can meet the required bond strength (JPCA standard, 3.4 N/cm or more) at the initial stage and after 3000 hours of standing.
