The TDK Group has introduced the first aluminum electrolytic capacitor featuring an impressive anti-vibration performance of 60g, as tested under the IEC60068-2-6 standard. These new EPCOS capacitors are designed to be highly durable and robust, offering excellent vibration resistance combined with superior electrical performance. Available in three different terminal configurations—axial leaded, welded star, and double plate—they come in a range of sizes from 16mm to 25mm (diameter x length), with dimensions up to 18mm x 39mm. Capacitance values span from 270μF to 5800μF, and voltage ratings range from 25V to 100V. Additionally, all models that meet the 60g seismic resistance requirement can operate at temperatures up to 150°C and are compliant with the AEC-Q200 automotive standard.
The axial design of the TDK Group’s capacitors provides exceptional vibration resistance. Compared to traditional leaded designs, axial capacitors offer a significant structural advantage: the flexible connection between the lead strips and the aluminum foil helps prevent vibrations from being directly transferred to the terminals. Moreover, the core is securely held within the aluminum casing through both axial and radial fixing forces. A ring-shaped pressed corrugation in the middle of the casing ensures stable radial positioning of the core.
These new EPCOS capacitors are widely used in DC-DC converters and motor inverters, making them ideal for automotive electronics applications. Their advanced design makes them suitable for harsh environments where reliability and performance are critical.
