Panasonic pushes a new generation of office energy-saving solutions - circadian rhythm LED lighting

Panasonic Corporation proposes a new generation of office energy-saving solutions that control LED lighting. The relationship between the biological rhythm and the light called "Circadian Rhythm" in a 24-hour cycle is applied to the illumination control. Panasonic hopes to create a new office environment that maintains comfort and knowledge-based production efficiency while further improving energy efficiency by changing the color temperature and brightness of LED lighting.

The solution proposed by Matsushita is based on the research results so far. Considering the color temperature and wavelength, intensity, and time of light are the main factors supporting a robust circadian rhythm. Before the afternoon, the color temperature will be kept awake in the range of comfort, until the evening is combined with comfortable illumination and color temperature, and at night, low-light, low-temperature light is used.

In order to increase the amount of action on the circadian rhythm at the same color temperature, Panasonic independently developed an LED module with controllable wavelength. Compared with the commercially available LED modules, the amount of action under the same illumination can be increased by about 12% under high color temperature light during the day. The company verified the lighting effect of using the wavelength-controlled LED module, and the results show that the effect is the same as the traditional lighting, unlike the power-saving lighting that will increase the work error and reduce the awake.

Compared with the original lighting, the lighting control based on the circadian rhythm can achieve energy saving of about 10 to 15%, and at the same time prevent the decrease in the degree of sobriety caused by energy saving and the adverse effect on the knowledge-based production efficiency. Now more and more offices are starting to reduce lighting in order to save electricity, but they are worried that this will lead to inefficient production. Therefore, Panasonic has proposed the above solution and will achieve productization in 2012.
