As one of the landmarks of Paris, the 850-year-old Notre Dame de Paris recently replaced 400 incandescent lamps with energy-saving LED lamps. The entire project was completed by Philips.

Some people may still miss the feeling of dim light in Notre Dame Cathedral, but after replacing the LED lights, people can more clearly see those rose windows and representative statues such as the Virgin Mary and the Son. In the project, two 250W LED spotlights were installed at a distance of 50 meters above the rose window above the two north and south gates. The position of the lamps will not normally enter people's eyes, but the light will directly shine on the rose window. It makes the window look like it will shine.

All the luminaires are connected to the control panel and can be used to create different ambiences through proper regulation. The lighting designer Armand Zadikian said: “The church has two functions, one is religious and the other is cultural. When a religious ceremony is held in a church, tourists visit or perform concerts, the new lighting system can Create a different atmosphere for these activities."

Newly installed LED lighting fixtures can also bring considerable energy savings. By reducing the total wattage from 140kW to 30kW, the lighting efficiency can be increased by a total of 80%. Philips said that only the nave can save 1/5 of energy consumption. In addition, the newly installed LED lamps can reach a service life of 13 years under the conditions of 10 hours per day, which can save maintenance costs and manpower needed to replace lamps.
