Datongda Youshang Group Launches STMicroelectronics Low-Power Bluetooth Single-Chip Solution

BlueNRG-1 SoC Provides Designers with Low Power and RF Connectivity Reliability

· System chips meet the needs of the fastest growing low-energy Bluetooth emerging markets, including retail store navigation, wearables, Internet homes, automotive, industrial and medical

On April 11, 2017, Dalian United Holdings, a leading semiconductor component distributor dedicated to the Asia-Pacific market, announced that its subsidiary has launched ST's first Bluetooth low-power SoC---BlueNRG-1. The product combines superior energy efficiency with powerful RF performance to meet the rapidly growing market.

Bluetooth low-power technology is ideal for Internet devices such as smart sensors and wearables, retail store beacons, car keyless entry systems, smart remotes, asset trackers, industrial monitors, medical monitors and more. . According to ABI Research [1], with the outbreak of the Bluetooth tablet and smartphone market, users have convenient graphical interfaces for communication with Bluetooth low-power devices, and Bluetooth-enabled low-power IoT products will be shipped in 2021. Nearly 1.4 billion pieces, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) reached 34%.

Bluetooth low energy must ensure an energy-efficient operating mode, including the most commonly used low power sleep and standby modes to maximize battery life. In order to improve the effective coverage of the broadcast and the reliability of the connection, the RF performance must also be excellent. ST's new BlueNRG-1 programmable system-on-a-chip meets RF performance and power requirements for these applications.

The BlueNRG-1 internal RF transceiver is extremely energy efficient in the usual mode of application equipment. For example, the common mode of the retail store navigation transceiver is set to a short data communication connection to push special product information to the customer's smartphone. The BlueNRG-1 is able to quickly switch between power-saving and working modes, extending battery life from months to years. In addition, the RF output power is increased to +8dBm, ensuring clear and reliable communication quality, achieving maximum energy efficiency, and even performing equally well in noisy environments.

Benedetto Vigna, executive vice president of ST emulation devices and MEMS business unit, explains: "In the retail, Internet home, automotive, industrial, medical or electronic payment sectors, the success of many new applications is critical to the user experience. So we need Energy-efficient Bluetooth low-power solution. For IoT designers, BlueNRG-1 hits the problem: compared to existing solutions, the new product is a single-chip solution that does not exceed the technical requirements, cost Not too high, it also extends battery life, provides excellent connection reliability, and has the best RF performance."

In addition to energy efficiency and low power consumption, BlueNRG-1 offers a number of value-added features that make it easier for designers to work and live. These features include dedicated digital microphone inputs that help simplify voice-activated design and smart lighting; 105°C maximum operating temperature for automotive applications (eg, keyless entry or on-board diagnostics); support for the latest Bluetooth 4.2 standard, ensuring Application design can use advanced privacy and security protection technologies.

technical details:

The BlueNRG-1 single-core SoC product highlights the 32MHz 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M0 core and ample performance per milliwatt. The 160Kb on-chip flash memory is used for application and data storage, as well as the ST Bluetooth low-power firmware stack. ST also integrates market-proven ultra-low-power designs, including support for fast wake-up and sleep transitions, and a rare standby current of less than 1μA.

BlueNRG-1 is equipped with ST's market-proven Bluetooth low-power firmware stack in a ready-to-use link library file format. Create a library link to remove unused code from the firmware stack to ensure efficient memory usage. The new product also offers pre-certified medical devices, proximity monitoring and other types of Bluetooth application specifications, as well as development tools and technical documentation for iOS® and AndroidTM applications.

System peripherals simplify design and save on external components. Important peripherals include 10-bit analog/digital converters (ADCs), SPI and I2C master/slave controllers, UARTs, and up to 15 user configurable I/O input and output ports, depending on the package type.

Designers using BlueNRG-1 can use a feature-rich development ecosystem, including software development tools (SDKs) with APIs, sensor drivers, routines, and more. Recognizing the importance of low power consumption in low-power Bluetooth applications, STMicroelectronics also provides a current measurement tool in the ecosystem to help assess the effects of varying factors on current magnitude, such as transmit output power, master/slave sleep clock accuracy. , RAM content retention, connection broadcast or scan interval, data length and DC-DC converter startup.
