With innovative solutions from this top automaker, drivers can easily unlock, unlock and activate their cars with NFC-enabled smartphones. Gemalto's Trusted Service Center seamlessly and securely deploys digital keys wirelessly on any handset that supports the solution.
Through Gemalto's trusted service center, the key can be safely downloaded to the security chip [1], and the driver can lock or unlock the car simply by attaching the smartphone to the handlebar. In addition, when the phone is placed in the charging tray of the dashboard, press the start button to start the engine. Even if the phone's battery is exhausted, it will not affect the operation [2], so the driver will not need to carry a traditional key.
As an integral part of the Mercedes me Connect project, digital car keys will be seamlessly connected to related services to meet the demands of modern mobility and digital lifestyles.

[1] The Security Chip is a tamper-resistant hardware platform that securely hosts applications and stores confidential and cryptographic data. The chip is embedded in the eSE (embedded security chip) of the SIM or OEM embedded mobile phone provided by the mobile network operator.
[2] If the smartphone supports this feature, the car can be locked or unlocked up to 10 times within 24 hours.
