Australia will build the world's largest solar power plant completed within 3 years

Australian engineering services company WorleyParsons is launching a plan to build a large solar power plant, each costing about $1 billion and generating 250,000 kilowatts a year. The first power plant is scheduled to be completed within three years and will be the world's largest solar power plant.

According to Taiwan's China Times, WorleyParsons has launched a survey with the support of big companies such as BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto to find out where Australia is suitable for advanced solar power plants.

WorleyParsons' solar power plant plan relies on customer funding. If the first plant is to be completed by the end of 2011, it will ensure funding sources early next year.

WorleyParsons estimates that the cost of generating electricity for its first large solar power plants in Australia is about 15 cents per kilowatt. Peter Meurs, CEO of EcoNomics, the company's own company, said that with the advent of newer technologies, these The power generation cost of the power plant is expected to decline.

WorleyParsons is working hard to build 34 solar power plants in Australia by the end of 2020 to meet the country's 40% renewable energy needs as the Australian government sets renewable energy targets and introduces carbon rights to suppress carbon emissions.

If WorleyParsons' solar power plant is not to lose money, the pricing of carbon rights will be significantly higher than $10 per metric ton. If it can be set at 50 AUD per metric ton, solar energy will be relatively cheap. In Europe, where carbon rights trading is the strongest, the current price of carbon rights due in December this year is around 26 euros (about 44 Australian dollars) per metric ton.
