According to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics (Samsung Electronics) will purchase LCD panels from LG Group, which is the first time since the two long-term competitions have become a partnership.
According to people familiar with the matter, LG Display will soon offer Samsung a 40-inch and larger panel. It is expected to provide 700,000 LCD TV panels before the end of the year. It is reported that Samsung is willing to further expand procurement.
Samsung produced 47.4 million flat-panel TVs in 2016, making it the largest share in the world. In the large LCD panel, the company ranked second, behind LG.
These two competitors had almost no transactions in electronic products before.
The cooperation was started at the end of last year, when Osaka-based company Sakai Display Products, which was jointly operated by Sharp and Hon Hai Precision Industry Group, decided to stop supplying LCD panels to Samsung. Obviously the supply chain is out of stock, prompting Samsung to approach LG.
An analyst at KB Securities said Samsung and LG may expand their cooperation to cover high-performance products such as lithium-ion batteries.
