The Long March II launch vehicle successfully launched the electromagnetic monitoring test satellite "Zhang Heng No. 1"

At 15:51 on February 2, China successfully launched the electromagnetic monitoring test satellite "Zhang Heng No. 1" at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center with the Long March II carrier rocket and entered the scheduled orbit. This indicates that China has become one of the few countries in the world to have high-precision geophysical field exploration satellites in orbit.

It was learned from the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau and the National Space Administration that "Zhang Heng No. 1" is a newly developed national civil aerospace scientific research satellite, and is the first star of China's geophysical field exploration satellite program.

"'Zhangheng No.1' has a wide coverage, good electromagnetic environment, strong dynamic information and no geographical restrictions. It will carry out monitoring of physical phenomena such as global electromagnetic field, ionospheric plasma and high-energy particle sedimentation, for seismic mechanism research and space environment monitoring. And provide new technical means for scientific research in the Earth system," said Zhao Jian, deputy director of the Systems Engineering Department of the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau.

In 2013, the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau and the Ministry of Finance jointly approved the electromagnetic monitoring test satellite project. The satellite and launch vehicle were developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Five Institute Aerospace Dongfanghong Satellite Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Aerospace Technology Research Institute; the launch and measurement and control tasks were undertaken by China Satellite Launch Measurement and Control System Department; the application system was constructed and operated by China Earthquake Administration.

Zhou Feng, director of Aerospace Oriental Red Satellite Co., Ltd., said that "Zhang Heng No. 1" has multi-load integration, high-precision calibration and other characteristics, and carries eight kinds of payloads such as high-precision magnetometer, plasma analyzer and high-energy particle detector. . In addition, the Italian high-energy particle detectors contained in the satellite will complement the joint detection of high-energy particle detectors developed by China.

The overall technical indicators of “Zhang Heng No. 1” have reached the international advanced level, and some technical indicators have reached the international leading level. “'Zhang Heng No.1' has created a number of domestic 'firsts' – the first high-precision electromagnetic cleanliness control of low-Earth orbit satellites, which has made up for the shortcomings in the development of space-based science detection in China; Satellite loading high-precision magnetometers and inductive magnetometer loads are expected to capture valuable global geomagnetic data," said Shen Xuhui, chief scientist of the electromagnetic monitoring test satellite project.

The mission was carried out by launching six domestic and foreign micro satellites such as "Juvenile Star One".

The "Junior Star One" microsatellite is the first educational sharing satellite in China, which originated from the creativity and dreams of more than 100,000 primary and secondary school students. All primary and secondary schools and educational institutions with satellite monitoring and control substations can use the "Juvenile Star One" data to conduct aerospace science education.
