Kionix, Inc., a subsidiary of the ROHM Group based in Ithaca, New York, has introduced a new shock and acceleration detection solution tailored for industrial and sports fitness equipment. This innovation supports the KX222/KX224, a high-G acceleration sensor designed to meet demanding applications that require precise and robust performance.
The KX222/KX224 offers an impressive measurement range of up to ±32G, making it ideal for environments where high-impact forces are common. Available in compact 2×2mm² and 3×3mm² LGA packages, this sensor helps reduce the size of high-performance systems without compromising on accuracy or reliability.
This product was launched in September 2016, with a sample price of 1,500 yen per unit (excluding tax). For more detailed pricing and availability, customers are encouraged to contact their local sales representatives. Mass production is scheduled to begin in December, with a monthly output of 1 million units.
Currently, most general-purpose accelerometers support acceleration detection up to ±20G, commonly used in mobile devices such as smartphones for functions like screen orientation and motion sensing. However, with the rise of new applications in industries like white goods, industrial automation, and sports fitness equipment, there's a growing need for sensors that can detect higher G-forces and provide more advanced features.
In response to these evolving demands, Kionix, a leader in MEMS technology, continues to expand its portfolio of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and combined sensor solutions. The newly developed KX222/KX224 now offers three configurable measurement ranges: ±8G, ±16G, and ±32G. Users can select the optimal range based on their specific application needs.
Thanks to Kionix’s advanced MEMS manufacturing expertise, the KX222/KX224 delivers superior acceleration detection capabilities, supporting both vibration and shock detection up to ±32G. It also maintains the same low noise levels as previous models, ensuring consistent and reliable performance across various conditions.
With a maximum data output rate (ODR) of 25.6 kHz—three times faster than conventional accelerometers—the KX222/KX224 is well-suited for applications requiring real-time monitoring, such as vibration analysis and impact detection. Its enhanced structural design also improves impact resistance and durability, making it suitable for use in harsh and unpredictable environments.
In the future, ROHM Group aims to further expand its lineup of high-precision, compact sensor solutions to meet the rising demand from IT equipment, industrial systems, and the IoT market.
High-voltage Electric Pole is a high-rise structure that supports high-voltage transmission lines. They are a vital part of the power grid, helping to move electricity from power plants to homes, businesses and other buildings. High-voltage power poles are marked with warning signs alerting people to the dangers of electrocution and are often located in areas where access is restricted to prevent accidents.
