After a long and intense five days, an All-Star team of 17 students from the University of Michigan went deep into Central Australia to compete for a car rally that relied on creativity and sunshine. This is the Bridgestone World Solar Car Challenge, which has been held for two years since 1987. During the competition, high-efficiency cars from all over the world will compete for a total of 1900 kilometers, in order to continuously break through the limits of solar car innovation.

This event is equivalent to the World Cup in the solar car industry, and the University of Michigan is a first-class team. In 2015, the team ranked fourth in the world's 42 teams.

Pavan Naik, an industrial and operational engineering student at the University of Michigan, said: "I am very excited to have the opportunity to participate in such a grand competition with engineers from all over the world." Naik is the manager of their team, dealing with budgets, people, supplies and solar energy. Cars are shipped to Australia for logistics and other matters.

The Naik team named their car "Aurum" and eventually won the third place, second only to teams from the Netherlands and Japan.

He said: "We have developed a car that is faster than any other team at the University of Michigan." The end result indicates that there will be good prospects for future research on solar cars and the promotion of energy-efficient vehicles.

Naik said: "What new technology created by the development of solar cars not only breaks the limits of current solar technology, but also improves the efficiency of the whole vehicle. World Solar Car Challenge Map

In order to develop solar cars and put them into competition, a team of 70 students from the University of Michigan spent two years working overtime. These students come from a variety of professional fields, including computer science, business, marketing, and aerospace, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

With increased horsepower computer and digital tracking technology, this streamlined, lightweight solar car can travel at speeds of up to 100 mph.
